I need hotel recommendations. I'll be coming in from Boston. Would be great if I know a good place to stay that's near the island, and also near night clubs in the city.

airbnb.com let's you view people who rent out their apartments by the night. Eons cheaper than a hotel. Your second best bet would be a hostel. Take into consideration the area nearest Randall's Island E. 125th isn't the best area to be by yourself in a new city. As per clubs you can find out what's going on every night using mysocialist.com

I will be with three to five other people. I'm trying to stay somewhere around East 35th St so that I will be close to the ferry.

My groups thinking was to stay near the fest, at first, which ends up being somewhere near Harlem. Our friend who lives there explained the subway lines to us, and that the best way to get to the island is the footbridge on the north (I believe) side, so you want a subway line that goes there.
All things considered we opted to stay in the east village, close to a subway line and also to the nightlife. We figured it is better to subway back from the fest to where we will be staying/going out, than subway back to our crashpad after hitting the bars at 2-4 am.
