Bassnectar just announced a bunch of dates with no NYC show and an opening for Gov. Ball. That'd be a bummer. I don't hate Bassnectar but I'm hoping for something cooler/someone who hasn't toured endlessly EVERYWHERE over the last 3 years or so. I'm gonna be so angry if this shit becomes the third headliner. Though it seems unlikely that he would go from Colorado on the 1st, to Chicago on the 14th, with NY in between if there are "lots more dates to come".

Think about it this way...Founders Entertainment has assembled a great but somewhat predictable lineup of bands, not a ton of "gets" as people on some other boards would put it.
In this regard, I'd be pretty surprised to see the Yeah Yeah Yeahs as the mystery headliner. Also, though this may be biased because I am hoping it is someone else, these guys are to smart to think that a Bassnectar mystery headliner won't make people mad. Then again, maybe they know Bassnectar won't sell as many tix as the allure of a mystery headliner, playing us like a fiddle.
At this point, the most likely (in some order of probability) bands are:
Vampire Weekend Jack White Mumford and Sons Bassnectar *sigh* Yeah Yeah Yeahs RHCP
Longshots: DMB Arcade Fire

I doubt its bassnectar. I also doubt its the YYYs, since they are no where near headline caliber. Theyve already been announced for quite a few festivals already, and they arent headlining any of them. Neither is Vampire Weekend.
My money is on either: Mumford & Sons, The Postal Service, or the Strokes

I'm so relieved to read you don't think Bassnectar will play. If Founders Entertainment uses a radius clause then you can rule out Postal Service. I think you could anyway because they're playing Barclays Center a week after Gov Ball and I find it hard to believe they'd do both. I'm thinking YYY's, Vampire Weekend, Mumford, and my stretch is the Strokes.

very true. Im only wishing for them because I cant go to the barclays show and i really wanna see them lol
But I still have a little hope since they did announce several cali shows around coachella. It could be possible that they are waiting for the barclays show to sell out before they announce their govball appearance.....wishful thinking

Does that mean you think they won't headline here?

Does that mean you think they won't headline here? Sorry...quoted the wrong person. I think they could headline here especially since they are from NYC. I was saying this because the other gentleman was saying Vampire wasn't headlining any fests.

I was saying this because the other gentleman was saying Vampire wasn't headlining any fests. Ah I gotcha. Yeah Vampire Weekend is huge, with another fairly big act they could easily play MSG/ BC. I think they will, because their tour doesn't include any NYC area shows, closest is Boston which probably falls outside the radius clause. Also try this lineup.governorsballmusicfestival.com/band/the-postal-servicethen try this lineup.governorsballmusicfestival.com/band/metallica Metallica is obviously not playing, but for me at least The Postal Service causes a unique error message. Something to keep in mind for sure.

Don't get me wrong, the Postal Service are solid and I enjoy listening to them when the time is right, but are they really a headliner fit for this fest?
I'd expect something a little more high energy. They also only have one full-length album, but could fill the set with some new songs and Death Cab tunes.
tPS and YYYs are great bands but even with some of the arguments made here, I'm still not a buyer of them headlining.
Are there any wildcard acts that no one has thrown out yet? Could they have pulled Frank Ocean?
